Try it: Choose Inside cutaway to see all four chambers, the septum, and valves together. Drag
the heart to turn it in any direction, choose Blood flow for a complete trip through the lungs and body, or
use the slider to move the same anatomical pieces outward from where they belong.
Heart habits lab
What helps a heart do its job?
Small patterns repeated over time matter more than one meal, one workout, or one quiet day.
01
Movement
Watch the heart answer active play
When muscles need more oxygen, the heart beats faster and moves more blood each minute. Regular activity helps build heart-lung fitness.
At a comfortable rest
The heart keeps blood moving with a slower rhythm. The chambers still fill, squeeze, and relax in the same careful order.
02
Food and water
Support the muscle and vessels
Vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, nuts, fish or other lean proteins, unsaturated fats, and water can support healthy blood pressure and cholesterol.
What can make the job harder? Eating patterns high in sodium, saturated fat, and added sugars can raise the chance of high blood pressure, unhealthy cholesterol, or diabetes over time.
03
Protect and recover
Give blood vessels clean air and rest
Sleep, movement breaks, and avoiding smoking, vaping, and secondhand smoke support the heart and blood vessels. Nicotine can raise heart rate and blood pressure, while smoke can damage vessel linings.
Remember: Heart conditions can also come from genes, infections, aging, or differences present at birth. A health problem is never a person's fault.
For learners: Your body needs food, movement, rest, and kindness. This is general education, not a personal medical plan. Ask a trusted adult or health professional what is safe for your body.
